Filmmaker: Daniele Zedda (flickr.com/astragony)
Pro or amateur: Amateur (university student)
Synopsis: Minimal landscape shoot with a lonely cold mood to it, more like motion photographs
Production equipment used: 5D mkII, 50 f1.2L, Gitzo 1541T
Editing software: Premiere Pro Cs3
Editing hardware: Intel Q9400, 4Gb DDR2 ram, nvidia gtx280, WD raptor HDDs
Editing Workflow: Transcoded all the h.264 into cineform, then edited those in premiere (everything full res)
Favorite shot or clip in this film: Probably the fountain in the beginning, I really like how I made the water react to the music
Tip for 5d MkII filmmakers: Previsualize, get into the mood and get off your *** and shoot. It’s the only way to improve. Forget about the technical part, just create art or tell a story

Your photography in B & W with the music gives me the feeling that spring is a long, long way off…just to dark for me but I do have a suggestion.

Take the same scenes in not yet spring and contrast them with hope by taking the same scenes in summer and put more upbeat music to it, then flash back and repeat then end on some sort of glorious summer music and perhaps people sitting around a picnic table in a cool place sharing life.

Your work is very worthly and you’ll have your fans who disagree with me and that’s fine, but for me it wasn’t uplifting and I get moved by light, life and upbeat music.

I’ve watched it several times now, and every time it takes me to a quiet, special, place. Thanks for that!

Some minor points: the focus changes go too fast for me, they feel out of tune with the flow of the images. Some of the transitions could be more symmetrical, in that fading out of the existing image and into the new image have the same speed and feel.

Overall, I enjoy the Zen-like quality, and personally don’t feel the need for making it more uplifting. If spring is not here yet, spring is not here yet…
